Why Start a Horse Retirement Farm?
The idea for our horse retirement farm came about as the result of a lot of thought and planning. We wanted to create a business that utilized both of our backgrounds and interests and we also wanted to work together. As we went through the process of developing ideas for our business we made a list of criteria that we wanted to base our business upon:
· We wanted to build a business that would allow us to work together instead of spending our days apart.
· We know that at some point in the future we will be starting a family. We wanted to create a business that would allow us to both be at home parents.
· Jason’s passion and background is farming. He bought his family’s seventh generation family farm and operated it until a divorce forced its sale. Jason wanted to have another farm-based business.
· Melissa’s passion is horses. She has ridden and shown horses for 25 years, and she wanted a business that would allow her to maximize her horse time.
· Jason has a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Nutrition from the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada. Additionally he has over ten years of experience in the feed industry designing and balancing feeds for horses and cattle. We knew we wanted to utilize this valuable experience.
Eventually the idea for a horse retirement farm began to take shape. It seemed like the perfect way to merge farming and horses together, as well as incorporating all of our other requirements for our business. You know your horses will have the best of care and unlimited TLC since they will have a home with people who are passionate and excited about what they are doing.
