When I started to toss around the idea of retiring my gelding, “Stormy”, I became anxious over what I saw as limited retirement options available in the northeast. Horse retirement farms were somewhat of a novel concept to me.  Typically, I saw horses being sold as “schoolmasters”, coming out of work and living out their years in small backyard farms, or if lucky just coming out of work and staying where they were on full board. While none of these options are bad, per se, I wanted to explore other options.

It was important for me that Stormy be in a more temperate climate, have lots of friends and room to run.  In short to just “live like a horse”.  BUT, I wanted him to receive the same level of care he received his whole life, to be in a structured environment with daily hands on care and supervision by knowledgeable horse people.   A tough bill to fill, I thought. I started by asking friends in Florida for references and Paradigm Farms was the first name I received.  I then continued my search, eventually gathering information and comparing about eleven farms in total.

After about a two-year decision making process Paradigm Farms was the choice for me and Stormy.  They offer their retirees an amazing combination of a free life in complete structure, exactly what I was looking for!  Melissa and Jason are extremely knowledgeable, dedicated and kind people and I never worried about Stormy’s care.  My horse lived out his later years as a horse, and while the distance made it impossible for me to be with him at the end of the road, I would not have had it any other way.

I would not hesitate to recommend Paradigm Farms to anyone looking for a retirement farm for their horse.
